SCG client TabBrands has a team of 4 PhDs and an MD/PhD, that developed a patent-pending effervescent delivery system which disperses any plant-derived or fungi-derived active ingredient in hot or cold liquid. This allows any facility to adopt the technology while delivering the quality and consistency required.
This innovative process means that beverage production facilities and brand owners can be assured that they are delivering a consistent dose of THC/CBD or fungi in the advertised amount. This is no small feat as many 3rd party tested products did not contain the dosage that is claimed on the packaging and that the consumer expects. This has left production facilities and copackers scrambling to consistently produce the desired dosage in products while eliminating the off-putting taste imparted by many THC/CBD or fungi additives.
For the consumer, the technology means that beverages made with this process are better tasting, safe, more bioavailable and predictable because they deliver the assured dose. The proprietary all natural powder also lowers the acidity in coffee and allows for the creation of CBD/THC products that actually taste good. Finally, the TabBrands IP does not require additional machinery on the production line nor does it use potentially harmful nanoparticle technology or microemulsion which is better for human health and the environment.
COFFEE, SELTZERS + RTDs
TabBrands has applied its effervescent delivery system technology successfully to a wide range of plant-derived active ingredients. This includes all forms of coffee (roasted beans, ground coffee, cold brew, soluble coffee, RTD coffee drinks and single serve options like K-Cups and Nespresso pods). The delivery system works effectively to disperse the active ingredient such as plant protein and hemp-derived cannabinoids quickly and uniformly.
BUILDING A SUCCESSFUL HEMP-DERIVED THC BEVERAGE BUSINESS
small coffee company in Pennsylvania applied the TABBRANDS IP in the emerging hemp-derived THC beverage space. The team worked collaboratively with the company on formulation and production. Results are remarkable for these THC/CBD seltzer and THC/CBD cold brew products. The seltzer offering was judged the best THC beverage product at a recent national beer distributors convention in Las Vegas. The brand is now available in multiple states. Production is scaling from 100,000 cans a month to 1,000,000 cans a month and they are currently entertaining licensing offers. We anticipate that this technology will be used by many more brands in the coming years, as functional beverages, THC seltzers, etc. gain popularity.
WORLD-CLASS PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT CAPABILITIES
The product development team is led by Dr. Karen Vieira who holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science with an emphasis on Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Florida Medical School.
Dr. Vieira also worked for years as a Food Scientist for Kraft Foods and has developed thousands of products in the beverage, food and nutraceutical spaces. The team has worked with production facilities in the US and Chile to ensure proper implementation as well as post production testing verification. When Tab Brands Co Founder Dean Harris spoke with SCG CEO Susan Mooney he admitted, “this was really hard to develop but now we’ve got it and we can work with other founders to deliver innovative beverages.”
